Gymboree Song Translation

Great news. My son is a genius. The folks at Gymboree called and asked if he wanted to move up to the level 4 class. He is only 15 months and they want to skip a grade and go to the level that starts at 16 months. It may have something to do with the fact that if you ask him what a sheep says, he says "ba".

Gymboree's songs are fun but they change the lyrics so you think the song is specific to the facility. I have cracked the code and am sharing the translation with all:

  • Gymbo the clown goes up and down = Wheels on the bus go round and round
  • Hello Jake. Hello Jake. How are you? How are you? = Frere Jacques or Are you Sleeping or Where is Thumbkin
  • There are bubbles in the air in the air = If you're happy and you know it clap your hands
  • Sitting in my high chair high chair high chair = Momma's little baby loves shortening, shortening
  • Trot Trot to Gymboree Trot Trot to Gym = Trot Trot to Boston. Trot Trot to Lynn
  • G-Y-M-B-O = B-I-N-G-O
  • Fly, Fly, Fly your plane = Row, Row, Row your boat
  • Everbody Find a Lap = London Bridge is Falling Down

Hey, you're familiar w/Gymboree? Do you know anything about a song that may be on a video of theirs - goes something like:

We're going to the zoo today, we're going to the zoo.

(something something)
To Explore the zoo with you...

Help! I remember this from the 80's on a video some kids I babysat used to watch.

hey..
i gooogled "gymboree songs", and your blog popped up..
i have a little story to tell, i'm laras from indonesia, i was one of the instructor in Gymboree Indonesia, right now i teach in a preschool..
i want to tell you that you're really cool...hehehe because when i worked in Gymbo, their songs seems like exlusive, and prohibited for any school to use them.. but when i teach in other preschool, i was like..oh my god!!!!! it just a common nursery rhyme, what gymboree did was changing the lyrics.. i just want to add the info..

Gymbo says he's glad you're here - camptown races
let's all make a circle - the more we get together
welcome, welcome everyone - twinkle twinkle little star

if you want to know more.. just contact me, i'm at dergios_larasati@yahoo.com

We just got hooked on that song:

#### Lyrics to Gymboree's, "We're Going to the Zoo"
"Hi. I'm Gymbo and this is the Gymboree bus.
Today we're going to the zoo,
where animals from all around the world live.
So come on. Climb aboard and join the fun."

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo,
All your favorite animals
will explore the zoo with you.

"Look Mom there's the Gymboree bus."
(beep, beep)
"Right on time
Have fun. Say hi to Gymbo for me."
"Where are we going today, Gymbo?"

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo.
Before we get there, tell me
what do you want to do?

I want to see an Elephant,
eat peanuts with his trunk.
I want to ride a Camel,
with a saddle on his hump
And clap my hands for the Pandas
munching on bamboo.

We're going to the zoo today...
going to the zoo.

"Let's all clap your hands."

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo,
All your favorite animals
will explore the zoo with you.

"Better hurry up.
You don't want to miss the bus."
(beep, beep)
"Hey that's right. And there's Jymbo now.
Gotta go. Bye!
Where are we going today, Gymbo?"

We're going to the zoo today,
We're going to the zoo.
Before we get there, tell me,
what do you want to do?

I want to watch the Leopard
try lick away his spots
and learn to spell Rhinoceros
I like rhino ?zots?
and hide inside the pocket
of a mommy Kangaroo.

We're going to the zoo today...
going to the zoo.

"Let's all clap and sing."

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo.
All your favorite animals
will explore the zoo with you.

"Look Dad! the Gymboree bus.
(beep, beep)
Where do you suppose Gymbo's going today?"
"Why don't you go with Jimbo and find out?"
"Where are you going today Gymbo?"

We're going to the zoo today,
We're going to the zoo.
Before we get there, tell me,
what do you want to do?

I want to join the Hippo
she wallows in the mud
and hear the Gorilla beat its chest
thud, thud, thud, thud, thud
I want to brush the Lama
who came here from Peru.

We're going to the zoo today...
going to the zoo.

"Come on and sing."

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo,
All your favorite animals
will explore the zoo with you.

"Gee, this would be a great day to go to the zoo,
don't you think?" (beep, beep)
"Why don't you ask Gymbo?"
"Where are we going today Gymbo?"

We're going to the zoo today,
We're going to the zoo.
Before we get there, tell me,
what do you want to do?

I want to climb a ladder,
to the top of a Giraffe
Tell Hyenas knock-knock jokes,
just to make them laugh.
I want to dance with a dancing Bear,
learn to juggle, too.

We're going to the zoo today...
going to the zoo.

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo,
All your favorite animals
will explore the zoo with you.

We're going to the zoo today
We're going to the zoo..

"Look at that sign!
What does it say?"
"Welcome to the zoo.
Yeah!"

this is so funny, I myself have been trying to figure out how to get ahold of that song. I used to play the video in my classroom and just got so addicted to the song! lol Now I seem to sing it all the time, but cannot find it anywhere.

Ummm... Gymboree uses well known tunes for their songs so that are parents can easily to sing along. The whole idea of Gymboree is to get parents to play and sing with their children. If they used all new tunes, people would never remember them. PLUS, why would they want or need to reinvent the wheel? Nursery rhymes and songs have been helping children learn how to rhyme and learn words for centuries, so why not tap into one of the best ways to teach young chilren? Just be glad they didn't come up with their own tunes - it would have been a lot harder for you to remember the fun songs and sing them at home with your child.
